Good Day all, I come to you yet another week with a podcast analysis. I’m starting this one late as I began reading a bit more, I completed two books over the weekend both were short reads about 100 pages or so. Gotta start small as they say, I wanna build a habit of reading as many books this year as well as completing them not just starting and stopping, believe me I’m good at that. The one I chose today quickly caught my eye as it was not just the first one on the list but it also was giving insight to how to make money with Facebook Groups. That kinda sounds too good to be true even more surprising from a former Flight Attendant with her head in the clouds, I kid, I kid. Well Abbie Unger is her name and coaching, encouragement and building support through a community to help aspiring Flight Attendants is her game. She has two websites, one for her business and a personal blog where has a variety of information such as promotion of her book.

A little Backstory on Abbie – 1:34
Interesting niche indeed, she had a passion for being flight attendant and like a lot of expecting mothers they decide to leave their job to be a stay at home mom. Most of the time though mothers just get so accustomed to staying home that they leave their dreams behind. But Abbie being so in love with it used her passion and experience in the field and turned it into a business. With gathering all the info she has on the topic which is a rare subject matter to search for, and made it available for the masses. Good use of Facebook too as she can use it to help as well as traffic more people to her site. 10 thousand members, a community of support for people in and who want to be flight attendants, what else she does is rewriting of resumes and coaching. John calls the area where you found your passion and overlapped it with a way to make it into a business venture the ZONE OF GENIUS.
Abbie’s success quote – 4:35
‘If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then, you are an excellent leader.’ – Dolly Parton.
“I love to hear people’s stories when they have found their dream chased it caught, wrestled it to the ground and made it come through.”
She took a left turn at Albuquerque – 6:26
In 2006 Abbie first became a flight attendant for United Airlines passed her interviews and other initiations which were all rigorous. She got to go to Amsterdam Germany for her first trip then San Francisco but about 3 weeks in she had a miscommunication with the crew scheduling department and ended up wrong place. While trying to get back she didn’t make in time since she was 2hrs away, per the new hire policy she was let go. It was devastating because the training process before even getting the job was 7 and half weeks no pay, strip of her wings with just a taste of being an attendant. But that taste was just a teaser and enough time to make her know she was meant to be in the skies. She persevered applied to Continental Airline and then after her first baby began the coaching business and used this story as an honest way to encourage up and comers to keep strong when failures occur.
It’s about building relationships, and you can’t build relationships if don’t let someone really know you – 11:08
AhA moment “Awesome do you accept PayPal?” – 11:47
When Flight Attendant Career Connection first started she was using the Facebook Group as a marketing tool to support the book. As the group grew, someone reached out to her to help in doing over their resume, Abbie told her yes and the woman asked how much? Abbie made up a price and the girl agreed, that’s when she realized that it was possible to earn money doing this. Side-note – when coming up with a figure for your services, whatever you choose double it. Also don’t be afraid to accept clients who want to pay you.
Her proudest moment – 14:43
What has her fired up right now – 15:30
Her book how to make money with Facebook, it hit number one in the marketing category on Amazon. She analyzed her Facebook group, gathered the relevant information and made a book out of it. One of the key things she sees is that business owners are looking for ways to connect with their audience and Facebook groups are a great way to do this. She plans to do speaking engagements at conferences in 2015, its essential to build relationships first then convert them into customers.
My Husband was holding me back – 19:43
Best advice she’s ever received – 20:34
Raise your prices, its true sometimes your information is very valuable. When someone requires your services the main reason they are paying you in the first place is because they don’t know how to do the job you are providing. But don’t go extreme, have different price points, also sometimes be generous gauge the person you are dealing with because sometimes what they can do for you later in life could be way more valuable than money. Time for money should be added here which is another valuable asset in which you using up per customer.
Batching – 21:23
Batching is the process of taking time to focus on one group of tasks that are related, completing them, then moving on and doing another batch tasks. Doing this also helps you free up a lot of time instead of jumping from one task to the next back and forth, multitasking is not a benefit, it hurts more than it helps.
Go solo by Kelsey Humphreys – 23:06
Benefits of having a business coach – 24:44
Abbie hired a business coach named Kimanzi Constable, which help her transform her stay at home business into something that is scalable has plans, a future and actually grow. Everyone who is successful has a coach or you can say mentor, they watch from the sideline give you feed back, cheer you on and even though you are winning the game they inform you on what you have to work on, they see what you cant see.
Final words – 26:11
They say you can have it all in life, Abbie believes that you can decide on what you really want and go for that and you can have what you want.
Alright, not as information heavy, but nonetheless there are always gems to unearth if you look closely and for me one that stood out was choosing such a distinct niche of Flight attendants. Making a group on Facebook is nice but if you can monetize on it like Abbie did you can get something going. It’s all about the relationships you make and maintain, this key factor made her see how useful her info was then it turn into a business. Knowing what you are worth and getting paid the amount for your time, don’t let anyone dictate your pace and your knowledge. And finally having a coach does wonders because with the expertise they can provide, it can propel you from nobody to being a prominent competitor on the scene. Thanks for reading my post and be sure to check me tomorrow for another.
